Dr. Ralph Utzman is Professor and Director of Clinical Education within the West Virginia University Division of Physical Therapy where he has been on faculty for over 25 years. Following his Bachelors in Physical Therapy, Ralph went on to earn a Masters in Public Health from WVU in 1998 and a PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006. He teaches in the areas of professional roles, including ethics, clinical administration, documentation and reimbursement, and health policy. He is a past recipient of the WVU School of Medicine Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education. He has been a trainer for the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program since 1998.
Throughout his time at WVU (and even prior to this time), Ralph has been actively involved in the WVPTA. He began as a member of the Education Committee which led to the role of Education Committee chair. He has also served as a delegate and chief delegate to the APTA House of Delegates on multiple occasions as well as serving two terms as chapter Vice President. Throughout his service, the chapter has seen advances in membership and legislative efforts. We sincerely thank Dr. Utzman for his long standing leadership and advocacy for our state and profession.
