I respectfully submit my candidacy for Delegate to the APTA House of Delegates. I am Dr. Matthew Burke, a native of Wheeling, West Virginia, and I am honored to express my interest in serving in this role. I am committed to advancing the physical therapy profession through active involvement in policy development, advocacy for underserved populations, and serving as a liaison between frontline clinicians and the West Virginia Chapter of the APTA.
I earned my Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Nazareth College of Rochester and my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University. I am credentialed in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy by the McKenzie Institute, a Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS), and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Over the past 20 years, I have developed extensive experience treating patients with complex neurologic and orthopedic conditions. Currently, I am the Clinical Director for Generations Physical Therapy’s Wheeling office. My professional background also includes service as an adjunct professor at Wheeling University, as well as leadership roles, including Regional Director of Rehabilitation and Hospital Director of Rehabilitation. Through these roles, I have been actively engaged in the creation, implementation, and enforcement of clinical policies, allowing me to witness the development of policies from an administrative point of view and their impact from a clinical standpoint. In addition to the physical therapy realm, I am active in my community as a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wheeling, where I previously served as Grand Knight of the Corpus Christi Parish Council and currently serve as a Trustee. I also serve as coach and commissioner for our youth softball league.
